What is it like to go Scuba Diving for the first time?

I am planning on signing up for some Scuba Diving classes but I am still nervous about being under water with big fish. And I have a fear of really cramped places, but I have always liked swimming. Is the first time going really scary? I have never done anything like this before.

Trust me when i tried it for the first time it was completely mind blowing…it was like no other!

At the beginning you will be scared and breathing might trouble you but it is all about believing in yourself and your equipment. YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE ENOUGH OXYGEN! remember that it really helps and when you inhale inhale strongly and when you exhale exhale slowly.

These where a few beginning tips now swimming with the fish is an experience that is really unique because not everyone can do it, fish will swim away from you if you behave abruptly in the water but if you are calm the fish won;t come near you and you will enjoy swimming with them. And underwater is not cramped! ;)

Trust me if you are going to sign in for the classes then you made a choice that you will never forget and will be in your mind and heart forever =D!

Edit: I know it is not oxygen only…i was just saying explaining a point..you don’t have to be too accurate..

What sport would you say costs more money in general, scuba diving or golf?

My buddy and I both scuba dive and golf and he is so adamant that golf is a more expensive sport than scuba diving. I couldn’t disagree more and want your input if your not bias to just one sport. I have worked at a golf course and a dive shop and would say diving is a much more expensive sport in general.

Scuba is expensive to get started in. Upfront costs for scuba would probably make you think that scuba is more expensive. But over all, golf is more expensive by far. Greens fees, memberships fees and equipment are very costly. They are ongoing. Not to mention clothes that are bought for playing in are expensive if you play regularly. If you play tournaments forget it, golf far exceeds scuba in costs.

What careers in scuba diving allow you to travel the world?

I’m just fresh starting in scuba diving close to finishing my open water dive. I’m absolutely addicted to it and want to do nothing else but scuba dive. I’m trying to find careers that allow you to travel the world. I’ve looked at a career in exploration but want to find out if there are careers with same perks.

NOT THE NAVY

At the “bottom end” being a Dive Master, Assistant Instructor or Instructor would pretty much allow you to move around the world working for various dive shops/centres ona casual basis, but the market is pretty much flooded.

More career minded options would be Marine Conservation, Marine Archaeology, Marine Biologist, infact if it has marine in the title its a pretty good bet.

If you get into hard hat diving, which is NOTHING like your OW course; then Oil and petrochemical industry are always in need of saturation divers, but its a dangerous and not a long lived career.

But do bare in mind that what may be fun as a hobby, can quickly become just another job (I know its hard to believe atm!) when you do it day in day out for weeks on end.
